Trip Overview

THIS TRIP HAS SOLD OUT. IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN FUTURE TRIPS TO NAPLES PLEASE LET US KNOW.

If you’ve never explored Italy south of Rome, you are in for a big treat. We start in Naples, Southern Italy’s largest city. Naples is famous for its intoxicating mix of Old World charm and modern grit. This is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with enough art, architecture, and archeology to hold its own against other metropolitan cities.

Next are two sites that should be on everyone’s bucket list; Pompeii with its well preserved city and people unearthed in the last century from under tons of volocanic rock and soot. We’ll also visit Herculaneum, partly destroyed in the same 97 AD eruption, but much better preserved with so much to see. Of course we’ll have an English-speaking archaelogist with us throughout.

We’ll then spend several days exploring the Amalfi Coast from our private villa high above the fabled coast. The views will be spectacular in every direction. The villa will be our home for 3 nights while we explore this beautiful piece of heaven. In addition to exploring every part of the Amalfi Coast in our private van with driver. We’ll visit wineries, incredible restaurants, a have a private to chef make us dinner, and we’ll have a full day Italian cooking school. You’ll be tasked with making your own dinner!

Before heading home, we’ll visit the stunning Isle of Capri, spend a day on the beach before heading home.

Itinerary

Day 1 :
Depart

We depart from home late afternoon for an overnight flight, arriving in Naples the following morning.

Late morning we arrive in this ancient city by the sea, and take a private transfer to our 5-Star hotel, Starhotel Terminus, city center, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. After some time to unpack and relax, the rest of the day is yours to explore on your own. We’ll reconvene at 6:30 for a welcome reception followed by a welcome dinner.

Dinner
Day 3 :
Naples

After breakfast we’ll meet our English-speaking local guide for a full-day tour of this ancient city. We’ll visit Lago d’Averno, the Flavian Amphitheater, the Temple of Serapis among other stops. The tour should end around 3, after which you’ll have time to shop or explore on your own or in a group. That evening we’ll participate in a private guided food tour of Naples. During the tour we’ll make a number of stops at markets, restaurants, and cafes to feast on a variety of local delicacies.

Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast we’ll pack our bags and head south toward the Amalfi Coast in our private van! On the way we’ll make two stops. Our first stop is to visit Pompeii, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 AD. Our guide for the day will share the history of Pompeii while he guides us through the ruins.

Next stop is nearby Herculaneum, damaged by the same eruption. Also a UNESCO world heritage site, Herculaneum is better preserved than Pompeii. The city’s houses, baths, taverns, temples and figures are undamaged. Thus, visitors will get a real sense of the splendor of this Roman city. Wealthier than Pompeii, the town is full of beautiful buildings.

After, we’ll continue on in the van to our private villa overlooking the Mediterranean near Salerno, on Italy’s majestic Amalfi coast. That evening we’ll enjoy a private chef in our villa who will prepare a traditional Italian meal, giving us cooking tips for every course. We’ll enjoy our dinner outside on the patio overlooking the coastline.

Note: travel times throughout the week will be short. The entire trip from Naples to Salerno is about an hour, and the rest of our travels along the coast with be as short or as long as we want!

Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast, made in the villa by our trip leader, we’ll explore the town of Salerno on foot. We’ll enjoy it’s incredible shoreline vistas before enjoying lunch in a seaside bistro. For those less adventurous, our van can travel with us, and is always available with a quick call if we run out of energy. (This is true throughout the balance of our trip.)

In the afternoon we’ll meet up with our guide for a private four-hour tour of several vineyards in the hills near Salerno. With our guide telling us about the vineyards, Salerno, and the history of this beautiful coastal area, we’ll be ready to enjoy our tastings.

On our last winery stop, we’ll enjoy dinner overlooking the vineyards, and of course wine will be included! We’ll return to our villa by the sea when and if we’re ready!

Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast, we’ll jump in our van and head out along the incredible Amalfi Coast! Our trip will include stops in the villages of Amalfi, Positano, and, Sorrento. In Sorrento we’ll take a short boat trip to the Blue Grotto, a small cave where light from the sun gives off an eery blue glow from within. We’ll return at our leisure and enjoy dinner at the famous Blu Stone seafood restaurant in Amalfi.

Breakfast, Dinner

Today will be a special treat. We’ll check out of our Salerno villa, and take a ferry from Salerno to the Isle of Capri! The 90 minute trip will take us to one of the most coveted European resorts – The Isle of Capri, a short 90 minute trip by ferry. There we’ll take a transfer to our incredible Hotel Brunella for 1 night. We’ll have all day to lay on the beach, or take a stroll around the tiny island. We’ll have a farewell dinner in the hotel that evening. Note, that everything on this tiny island is luxury and expensive, but we wanted our last night to be special!
